Former University of Missouri guard Dru Smith, a recent free-agent signing by the Miami Heat, put in 11 points in his summer debut on Tuesday night, as the Heat’s summer team beat the Los Angeles Lakers 80-78 in the California Classic in Sacramento.

Smith shot 5-of-10 from the field, adding a pair of rebounds and four assists.  The NBA’s Summer League schedule begins this Saturday.

At Missouri, Smith became a full-time starter for Cuonzo Martin, averaging 14.1 points per game last season, playing in 25 games.  He arrived in Columbia two years earlier as a transfer from Evansville.

A second Mizzou player for last season’s NCAA qualifying team, center Jeremiah Tilmon, is awaiting his pro debut after signing a free-agent deal last Friday with the Orlando Magic.
