Trenton’s Jacob Davis finishes third in District 15 tennis tournament

Trenton High School’s Jacob Davis beat Jackson Barry of Carrollton by an 8-3 final score on Saturday afternoon, taking third place in Class 1, District 15 boy’s tennis competition in Excelsior Springs.

Davis opened with a first-round bye, then beat Andrew Pratt of Cameron 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinals.  A 7-6, 6-1 loss to Seth Forstner of Excelsior Springs bounced Davis into the third place match.

Trenton’s other singles entry on Saturday, Nick Shields, opened play with a first-round 7-5, 6-1 win over Chillicothe’s Max Anderson.  Shields was bounced from the tournament in the quarterfinals, in a 5-7, 6-4, 6-7 loss to Jackson Barry of Carrollton.

In doubles play, Trenton’s Bryce Whitney and Kade Ockenfels had a first-round bye, then lost their quarterfinal showdown against Allen and Crouse of Excelsior Springs 6-3, 6-1.  Creed Houghton and Wyatt Neal of Trenton lost a three-setter in the first-round, 6-3, 3-6, 3-6 against Ohrt and Baker of Richmond.

The Chillicothe doubles team of Nate McKiddy and Brandon Lamp won the District 15 championship, qualifying for sectionals.  The Hornet duo, after a first-round, swept by Cameron 6-0, 6-1; beat Excelsior Springs in the semifinals 6-3, 6-2, then rolled past Cameron in the title match 6-0, 6-1.

Chillicothe’s Lane Bonderer and Cody Evans finished in third place in doubles.
