A second-straight SEC victory has moved the University of Alabama’s football program to No. 3 in the Associated Press poll, released on Sunday, behind just conference rival Georgia, and No. 2 Cincinnati.
Georgia spends another week as the unanimous top team in the country, with the Bearcats, after a tighter-than-expected win at Navy, checking in at the runner up spot.
Oklahoma, having to rally for a win at lowly Kansas after being shutout in the first half, paid for an “ugly loss”, falling behind Alabama in the latest rankings, followed by Ohio State and Michigan. Â
Oregon’s win at UCLA moves the Ducks back up to #7, with Michigan State, Iowa, and Ole Miss completing the Top 10.
Among teams losing on Saturday, and tumbling in the polls, Penn State’s nine overtime setback to Illinois sent the Nittany Lions tumbling 13 spots to No. 20, with Oklahoma State’s loss at Iowa State sending Cowboys down seven spots to No. 15 and spoiling a chance for a Bedlam “Battle of Unbeatens” with Oklahoma in the month of November.
There will be no bigger matchups in college football this weekend than those in the Big Ten, where in-state rivals Michigan and Michigan State meet in the first top-10 meeting between the rivals since 1964. The battle of unbeatens will be played in East Lansing.
In Columbus, Ohio, the fifth-ranked Buckeyes will welcome #20 Penn State to “The Horseshoe”.
In the SEC’s top matchup, #10 Ole Miss travels to Auburn to play the 18th-ranked Tigers, with both teams battling to stay in the SEC Western Division chase.
