The Missouri Tigers avoided a potential upset on Tuesday night, holding off the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in an 83-72 final score from Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
JSU (6-5) stayed with Mizzou throughout the contest, leading 68-67 with 5:59 remaining in the second half. However, the next three plus minutes was dominated by the Tigers, who ripped off 13 consecutive points to surge to the victory.
Mark Mitchell scored 10 of his 18 points in the second half for MU (10-1), with the program achieving its first double-digit winning streak in 11 years. The decisive 13-0 run with highlighted by a trio of three-point hits from Jacob Crews, with the final shot of that run giving Mizzou an 80-68 lead with 2:39 left.
Crews finished the game with 19 points. Jacksonville State was paced by high-scoring forward Jaron Pierre Jr. with 18 points.
Missouri’s next game will be the annual Braggin’ Rights contest against Illinois on Sunday, December 22nd at 12 noon from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis. The Tigers will wrap up 2024 with a home game with the Alabama State Hornets on Monday, December 30th at 6:30 PM.
