The Chillicothe Lady Hornets broke open a 3-3 tie with seven runs in the bottom of the 4th inning, in a 10-3 win over the Lady Bulldogs of South Harrison on Tuesday night, in softball action heard on KGOZ FM 101.7 from Daryl Danner Memorial Park.
South Harrison, the runner-up in the Grand River Conference, started the contest strong, with an Ella Callaway single scoring Ambrey Hunter for a second inning lead, followed by a pair of runs in the top of the 3rd inning for a 3-1 advantage. Brylee Sherill cracked an RBI double to plate Lexi Hunter, with Sherrill scoring on a throwing error by the Chillicothe shortstop.
With the South Harrison offense getting to Chillicothe’s Landry Marsh, the Lady Hornets were able to answer with a second inning run, as a bloop single by Charley Peniston scoring Kenzie Fleener, and two in the 3rd, with Marsh scoring on a Tori Stoner single, and Stoner scoring on a throwing error from third base.
Chillicothe’s decisive fourth inning surge saw the Lady Hornets send 11 batters to the plate, with seven base hits. Two South Harrison throwing errors hurt the Bulldog chances of limiting damage.
After being given the big lead, Chillicothe’s Marsh dominated, retiring the final 13 batters of the game in order, finishing the game with a total of 13 strikeouts, limiting South Harrison to just four hits.
The loss drops South Harrison to 18-11 on the season, with Chillicothe improving to 18-5.
