Chillicothe Lady Hornets remain red hot with blowout of Excelsior Springs

The Chillicothe girls, playing in the first round of the Cameron Invitational Tournament, cruised to a 58-27 win over Excelsior Springs on Monday night at Cameron High School.  Hunter Keithley had 16 points and Jordan Hibner 11 for the Lady Hornets, pushing their squad into a semifinal date with MEC rival Maryville, a 38-23 winner over Cameron.  Freshman phenom Serena Sundell had 15 points to pace the Lady ‘Hounds in Monday night’s win.

Chillicoth(10-5) and Maryville will play on Wednesday night at 8:30 in one semifinal, while in the other, scheduled for a 7 o’clock tip on Wednesday night, the top seeded Savannah Lady Savages will battle Lawson.   Savannah, in opening round play, rolled to a 73-21 win over Bishop LeBlond, while Lawson, behind 20 points from Taylor Dolt, downed the Higginsville Lady Huskers, 55-48.

In Wednesday afternoon’s girls consolation round games, LeBlond battles Higginsville at 4 o’clock, followed by Cameron hosting Excelsior Springs at 5:30.

The boy’s quarterfinals will be played tonight (Tuesday night) at CHS, with #4 seed LeBlond drawing Higginsville at 4 o’clock, followed by the top seed Maryville Spoofhounds playing Smithville at 5:30.  The Chillicothe Hornets, seeded #2, play Excelsior Springs at 7 o’clock, with the third-seeded Lawson Cardinals, stinging after a pair of recent losses to Penney, playing the host Cameron Dragons at 8:30.
