Chillicothe Hornets beat Cameron, setting up tennis semifinal showdown at Trenton

The Chillicothe Hornets beat the Cameron Dragons by a score of 5-1, in first-round tennis action in Class 1, District 15 on Monday afternoon.  The Dragons came into the postseason as a #6 seed, and picked up a doubles win over the Hornets by a score of 8-5. 

However, the Hornets dominated the rest of the dual, with Dalton Rosenbach and Nick Malloy combining for an 8-4 win, and Tyler Maasdam and Bryce Larson sweeping to an 8-love triumph.

In singles, Maasdam took a 6-1, 6-love victory, Nick Malloy won 6-1, 6-1, and Bryce Larson dominated in a 6-love, 6-1 final.  

The victory sends the #3 seed Hornets northward for the District 15 semifinals, and a meeting this (Tuesday) afternoon with the #2 seed Trenton Bulldogs.  Trenton takes an 8-2 regular season dual record into the match, with Chillicothe sitting at 6-5.  Action from the THS courts starts at 4 o’clock.  Once one team reaches five wins in the dual, play will be stopped, and the winning team declared.

The winner will advance to Wednesday afternoon’s (4 PM) Class 1, District 15 championship match.

On the top end of the bracket, #4 seed Carrollton took down #5 seed Richmond on Monday afternoon, 5-2, sending the Trojans to Excelsior Springs and a semifinal match with the top-seeded Tigers, this (Tuesday) afternoon at 4 o’clock.
