Down 4-0 after one inning of play, the Trenton Lady Bulldogs made a two-inning surge at rival Chillicothe on Monday night, pulling to within 4-3, before the Class 3 power Lady Hornets answered with six consecutive runs to win 10-3.
Trenton’s biggest hit of the game, a two-run homer by second baseman Lucy Price in the top of the second inning, was called on KTTN by Rod Tompkins:Â
Trenton added another run in the third inning on an RBI from Avery Clark, scoring Mirena King, who had two of the Lady Bulldogs six hits in the contest.Â
For Chillicothe, Maicee Albrecht had a pair of doubles and a home run as part of a four RBI game. Hope Donoho had two runs scored and Landry Marsh a pair of runs scored, with two base hits each.Â
Ali Probasco went the first four innings for Chillicothe, scattering six hits and three runs in earning the victory, striking out five batters. Marsh pitched no-hit softball for three innings to slam the door on Trenton, striking out three.
Chillicothe, now 21-5 on the season, will head to St. Joseph for Class 3, District 8 competition later this week as a #1 seed. Trenton, with a regular season mark of 17-11, has a #4 seed and will host districts this week, playing Milan on Wednesday night in a 4:30 quarterfinal on KGOZ FM 101.7.Â
