The Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed one of the team’s unsung heroes in the 2019 championship season, bringing back quarterback Matt Moore on a contract agreement reached on Friday. Moore, a 35-year old veteran, played well in the absence of Patrick Mahomes at mid-season, when the reigning NFL MVP missed time with a dislocated kneecap.
Moore was called out of retirement by coach Andy Reid last August after anticipated backup Chad Henne broke his ankle during preseason play. Moore had spent the first seven months of the year as a scout for the Miami Dolphins and an assistant coach at the high school football level.
Moore, in a long and winding pro career, has played four seasons in Carolina, followed by seven seasons in Miami. To create room on the roster, the Chiefs announced the cutting of former Michigan and Ole Miss quarterback Shea Patterson, who had signed as an undrafted free agent in May.
