Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice underwent surgery last week to repair the posterolateral corner of his right knee, coach Andy Reid announced Monday.
Initial reports indicated an ACL injury, but the revised diagnosis doesn’t significantly alter Rice’s recovery timeline. He will miss the remainder of the season.
“It’s probably the same result you get time-wise as an ACL. It takes a while for that to come back,” Reid said.
Pass rusher Mike Danna is recovering from a pectoral injury.
The Chiefs, one of two remaining unbeaten NFL teams, face the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in a Super Bowl 58 rematch.
Kansas City has overcome key injuries, including wide receiver Marquise Brown’s shoulder surgery and running back Isiah Pacheco’s fractured fibula.
Veterans JuJu Smith-Schuster and Kareem Hunt have helped fill the gaps. Smith-Schuster had seven catches for 130 yards, and Hunt ran for 102 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs’ last game.
Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire may return this week after starting the season on the non-football illness list.
