The Kansas City Chiefs, prior to Friday night’s second preseason game of the season against the Arizona Cardinals, waived five players, paring the roster down to 85 players as the final practice of the summer started at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.
The Chiefs have cut wide receiver Antonio Callaway and Evan Baylis, both with injury designations, while running back Elijah McGuire went to injured reserve. Wide receiver Chad Williams saw his release, as did defensive back Manny Patterson. Callaway has been battling a bone bruise, Baylis a sprained ankle, and McGuire a sprained ankle, with the latter two occurring in last weekend’s preseason win at San Francisco.
Although none of the injuries to the Chiefs defensive line are considered serious, it was notable at practice on Wednesday that among players leaving early with injuries were defensive end Frank Clark, defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi, defensive end Jarran Reed, and defensive end Demone Harris.
