For the first time in program history, the Putnam County Lady Midgets are softball champions of the Grand River Conference, defeating Worth County 4-2 on Thursday evening in Unionville, in the 4th installment of the GRC’s “Crossover” games matching ‘like’ finishers from the two divisions of conference play.
Winning pitcher Sammi Bradshaw struck out eight for the Lady Midgets, keeping PC unbeaten on the season. Kori Hornaday scored two runs and had a pair of base hits for the winning side, with Stephanie Stout adding an RBI and a 2 for 3 game, while Claire Tipton had three RBI’s.
With two of the scheduled games being postponed by wet field conditions, including Pattonsburg at Milan (make-up on Monday, October 7th), the GRC East went a perfect 5-0 against the West.
Trenton’s Lady Bulldogs hammered Stanberry, winning 14-4 at Mark Griffin Memorial Field. In Princeton, sophomore right-hander Lauren Krohn shutdown the potent Albany offense, leading the Lady Tigers to a 1-0 victory. South Harrison took a 3-1 against King City, with Maysville, in the matchup of third place finishers, knocking off Braymer 15-6.

Trenton Middle School improved to 4-4 on the season, winning the Hamilton Tournament championship with an 8-7 win over Gallatin in five innings.
