Champion Trenton, runner-up Penney, dominate District 16 softball selections

Out of 14 total selections to the Class 2, All-District 16 softball first-team, a total of 11 came from either the Trenton Lady Bulldogs or Penney Lady Hornets, with Trenton High School, the champions of the district by virtue of a 5-3 win at Hamilton on Saturday afternoon, taking six of the slots to the team.

Named first-team All-District for Trenton are senior pitcher Ainsley Tolson, senior catcher Salem Croy, sophomore infielder Maci Moore, senior infielder Mykah Hurley, junior outfielder Lexi Whitaker, and senior outfielder Taylor Richman.  From Penney, named All-District were sophomore pitcher Julia Kanoy, junior catcher Ali Trosper, junior infielder Gillian Gibler, junior outfielder Jaide Herrera, and junior utility Graycen Prothero.

The three other slots to the first team went to Polo senior pitcher Shelby Copeland, Polo senior infielder Kallie Heil, and Lawson senior infielder Hannah Nonemaker.

District 16 champion Trenton will host District 15 champion Lathrop in the Class 2 state sectional round on Wednesday night at 6 o’clock, with pregame at 5:40 on Hot Country Z 101.7, KGOZ on Tune-In Radio, and KTTNSports.com.

From Trenton, named to the All-District second team were senior infielder Sidney Lynch and freshman infielder Chandler Lynch.  South Harrison sophomore Madison Nichols is the second-team pitcher, joined on the squad by Lawson senior catcher Jessie Dietz, Polo senior infielder Taylor Wagner, South Harrison sophomore infielders Maycee Ragan and Riley McChensey, along with South Harrison senior infielder Emily Starmer, Lawson senior outfielder Taylor Dolt, and South Harrison junior utility Milaynie May.
