The Putnam County Midgets will travel to Milan tonight (Friday night), to participate in a four-team jamboree with the long-time rival Wildcats, the Princeton Tigers, and the Kirksville Tigers.  Action from Cal Hubbard Field begins at 7 o’clock.

Veteran coach Dave Cavanah admits that the job of rebuilding the proud Midgets program in Unionville was taken longer than anticipated, but he is hopeful that 2016 will be a turning point for Putnam County, entering its first season in the Grand River Conference.

Cavanah says the experience picked up by his Midgets in 2015 will lead to a more polished team this fall:

The Midgets, by all indications, are getting close to seeing the “light at the end of the rebuilding tunnel”:

Putnam County will be a team that relies on quickness and athleticism to succeed in 2016:

As Cavanah mentioned, the Midgets will play three consecutive Class 2 schools to open the season, hosting Hallsville on August 19th, playing West Hancock in Hamilton, Illinois on August 26th, and joining Trenton as both schools play their first ever Grand River Conference game, against one another, on Friday, September 2nd at C.F. Russell Stadium.
