The Princeton Lady Tigers opened semifinal play on Thursday night at South Harrison High School in Bethany scratching out a 48-45 overtime victory over Grand River Conference rival Maysville. By the time four games had been played, the Princeton boys joined their female counterparts in the win column, as did the Mercer girls and boys, setting up a weather-delayed championship night between the Mercer County rival Tigers and Cardinals on Monday.
The Mercer Lady Cardinals defeated Northeast Nodaway 51-34 in the semifinal round. The Mercer boys had things in cruise control in a 74-40 beatdown of Maysville, while the Princeton boys, for the second time in six nights, beat the South Harrison Bulldogs, this time on the Bulldog home floor, 51-45.
Dennis Stephenson will call the all-Mercer County championship games on Monday night in Bethany, with the girls game at 7 o’clock, followed by the boys contest at 8:15, both on KTTN FM 92.3. Â
All games scheduled for Friday and Saturday at South Harrison High School were postponed by this weekend’s winter storm.
