Ahead of their game against the Miami Marlins, the St. Louis Cardinals made several roster moves due to injuries. Right-hander Adam Wainwright was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain. Wainwright exited Tuesday’s game after giving up consecutive walks in the fourth inning.
Catcher Andrew Knizner was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right groin area injury. He was hit by a foul ball during Tuesday’s game and was subsequently replaced by Willson Contreras. Knizner has been performing well this season with a .227 batting average, five home runs, and 15 RBI in 35 games.
To fill the vacancies, the Cardinals recalled catcher Iván Herrera, right-hander Dakota Hudson, and left-hander Zack Thompson from Triple-A Memphis. They were available for the game against the Marlins. In addition, right-hander James Naile was optioned to Memphis.
