The young Trenton Lady Bulldogs played decently in spurts, but Cameron surged, particularly after taking the first set, to sweep THS, 25-14, 25-8 in a season-opening varsity volleyball match broadcast on Monday night on KTTN-TV.

In both sets, Trenton stayed close early, but struggled with their passing game when Cameron would extend the lead over the four-point barrier.  Trenton’s defense played more solidly than its passing and offense, as the Dragons showed strong ability to dig out Trenton’s kill attempts, leading to a frustrating night for the home team.

For THS, Karli Provorse led the way with 6 kills, an assist and a dig.  Laura Carlson dug out six balls with three kills, freshman Shawna Coplen had three digs, while Melea Farmer had Trenton’s best serving night, contributing an ace to go with four digs and four assists.

Trenton will host Lawson on Tuesday night and Chillicothe on Thursday night, while Cameron will play Lawson on Thursday night.

The Cameron JV rolled to a 25-13, 25-13 sweep of the Trenton JV on Monday night.  No freshman match was played, due to low numbers.

In other volleyball finals from Monday night, Maryville took down St. Joseph Benton 25-21, 27-25, while South Holt took a win against North Platte, 14-25, 25-17, 25-20.
