William Byron claimed victory in the rain-shortened NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday night, marking his fourth win of the season. Despite spinning early in the second stage and falling back a lap, Byron’s No. 24 Hendricks Motorsports Chevrolet was able to recover and secure the win. The threat of rain influenced the race strategy, as drivers aimed to move up the field before weather conditions worsened.
NASCAR eventually called the race due to rain, making it official after 130 laps. Daniel Suarez finished second, followed by AJ Allmendinger and Michael McDowell. The decision to end the race early received mixed reactions from the drivers. Kevin Harvick, a three-time winner in Atlanta, saw his chances of victory diminish after a spin.
The race was also marked by two wrecks involving Ross Chastain, Kyle Larson, Austin Hill, Denny Hamlin, and Alex Bowman. Byron’s win propelled him to the top of the NASCAR points standings. The next NASCAR Cup Series race will be held at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on the following Sunday.
