The Penney Lady Hornets made the trek to Excelsior Springs High School on Wednesday night, playing the Lafayette County (Higginsville) Huskers in the opening round of the Class 3 state playoffs.

Showing little let-down coming off of Saturday’s thrilling upset win over Trenton in the District 16 final, Hamilton took care of their business in improving to 22-7, winning 68-51.  The game was decided early, with the Hamilton side jumping to a 23-7 lead six minutes into the contest.

McKauley Prothero led the Lady Hornets with 20 points, with Nora Ford adding 18, Tegan Bruce 13, and Kassadie Moore 10 in a balanced scoring effort.  Lafayette County, the Class 3, District 15 champions, finished the season with a mark of 17-11.

The win sends Penney to Lee’s Summit High School on Saturday afternoon, to play the California Lady Pintos at 1 o’clock, with the winner earning a trip to the Show-Me Showdown in Springfield.  California defeated Barstow on Wednesday night, 64-55.
