The Trenton Bulldogs and Putnam County Midgets are set to meet in a varsity doubleheader tonight (Tuesday night), with plenty of extra activities in the Unionville school building tonight.
As part of the games, pink t-shirts will be available for sale, with proceeds going toward cancer research. Â In addition, a “Teddy Bear Toss” will be held, as at the conclusion of the boy’s varsity game, fans are invited to toss their teddy bears to the Putnam County gymnasium floor. Â Donated bears will be taken to the Children’s Mercy Hospital Cancer Unit.
Stakes will be high for all four basketball teams tonight. Â In the 6 o’clock girls game, it is a chance for the #7 ranked Lady Bulldogs to clinch the Grand River Conference’s eastern division title, as Brian Upton’s team is a perfect 5-0 in conference play, and 17-2 overall. Â Gallatin, coming off a Monday night win over Princeton, is 5-1 and 1/2 game behind Trenton, but THS owns a head-to-head tiebreak advantage, meaning that only losses to Putnam County and South Harrison (Wednesday) by Trenton would leave the door open for Gallatin to potentially take the eastern division title. Â Putnam County’s Lady Midgets are 9-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play, good for third place, one game behind Gallatin.
The stakes are clearer for tonight’s Bulldogs/Midgets boys showdown, as the winner of the 7:30 game will clinch the GRC Eastern Division title, and earn the right to host Friday night’s first-ever GRC Championship Game. Â Barring a Pattonsburg upset this week, the team most likely to travel to either Trenton or Unionville for the title game will be Stanberry, as the 5th-ranked Bulldogs sit one-half game behind North Andrew in the GRC West standings, but with head-to-head tiebreak advantage against the Cardinals.
The Trenton at Putnam County games tonight will be broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3 and KTTN on the Tune-In Radio app, available on smartphones, androids, and I-Phones. Â Audio streaming of the games will be available from the “Click to listen to KTTN” link on www.kttnsports.com. Â Tom Johnson has the play-by-play call from Unionville.
