The Trenton High School boys placed second at the Sam Martin Invitational wrestling tournament at Plattsburg High School on Saturday. Lawson ran away with the team title with 230 1/2 points. Trenton was second with 179 and Wathena-Riverside (KS) third at 129, just ahead of fourth place St. Joseph Lafayette.
Brookfield was sixth, Marceline seventh, Hamilton ninth, and South Harrison tenth. There were 16 schools, with seven of them also entering junior varsity wrestlers.
Trenton Head Coach Charlie Bacon said he was very pleased with the overall performance of his Bulldogs:
Lawson won the girls tournament with 144 points, followed by 138 from Fort Osage and 136 by Marshall. Marceline was fourth with 109 points. Brookfield was 10th, Gallatin 12th, and Trenton 13th. There were 22 schools, including three with both varsity and JV entries.
