Bulldogs beat Chillicothe, stay unbeaten with 5-0 start

The Trenton Bulldogs hosted the Chillicothe Hornets on Tuesday afternoon, with THS improving to 5-0 in tennis duals this spring, defeating the visiting squad 8-1, dropping the Hornets dual record to 2-5.

Trenton won 5 of 6 singles matches with CHS, with the only Hornet victory coming at #1 singles, as Tyler Maasdam downed Kade Ockenfels.  At #2 singles, Trenton’s Gabe Swann routed Chillicothe’s Grahm Mayers 8-1, with Creed Houghton of the Bulldogs, at #3 singles, claiming an identical 8-1 win over Noah Crowe.

Ockenfels and Houghton combined for a #1 doubles win for the Bulldogs, beating Mayers and Crowe 8-love.

The most competitive singles match of the afternoon came between Trenton’s Wyatt Neal and Chillicothe’s Matthew Callen at #4 singles, with Neal grabbing the 9-7 win.  Jeremy Elliott of THS downed Gunner Young at #5 singles, 9-1, with Isaac Harris, playing at #6 singles, claiming an 8-4 win over Seth Batye.

At #2 doubles, Trenton’s tandem of Swann and Neal doubled up Maasdam and Batye 8-4, while Elliott and Weston Otto took a 9-8 (7-2 tiebreak) win over Callen and Young at #3 doubles.

In JV competition, two singles match and three doubles matches were played, with 4 of the 5 wins going to Chillicothe.  Trenton’s only JV win came from the doubles team of Riley Raymo and Reece Miller, 7-5 over Michael Riddle and Carson Anderson.

Trenton’s Colten Hamilton played two singles matches, falling to Tyler Black 6-1 and Colten Johnson 6-2.  Two doubles matches in JV competition went the Hornets direction, both by 6-4 scores, with Gavin Sampsel and Tucker Hathcock beating Cole Soptic and Elijah Merrin, while Michael Sandefer and Alexander Walker defeating Kasen Christy and Sabastian Brown.
