The Trenton Bulldogs welcome the Chillicothe Hornets to the THS gymnasium tonight, as the Bulldogs pay tribute to their wrestling seniors, on ‘Senior Night’, hosting the school’s biggest traditional rival. Â Mat action begins at 6 o’clock.
With a ragged schedule adversely affected by ‘Mother Nature’, the Bulldogs have struggled to find positive consistency in 2016-2017, but that may be changing. Â In Saturday’s Brookfield Tournament, THS found some of its best success of the season to late, with the 4th-ranked wrestler in the state at 160 pounds, Drew Rorebeck, winning his weight class, while springing a 2-1 upset of #1 ranked Andrew Martin of Holden in the semifinals, in his finest day of the season.
Jadan Whitney, at 182 pounds, and Mason Owen, at 220 pounds, both won medals for the Bulldogs with third place finishes on Saturday. Â
A week ago today (Tuesday, January 17th), Trenton saw both the Richmond Spartans and Brookfield Bulldogs in triangular action at Richmond, where Owen began his week in strong fashion, according to Coach Charlie Bacon:
One of the wrestlers for the Bulldogs showing quick improvement heading toward Saturday’s Grand River Conference Tournament and the district tournament in early February is Daniel Rodriguez:
Chillicothe wrestled against Brookfield on Monday night, with the Hornets taking a 31-27 victory, although the Bulldogs won more of the ‘on-the-mat’ matches, as the Hornets got the advantage of multiple points from open weights.
Chillicothe’s ‘on the mat winners’ from last night were Colton Sewell at 113 pounds, Chase Minnick at 132, Kayde Burton at 182, and Max Anderson at 220 pounds.
After tonight’s duel, the Trenton Bulldogs travel to Stanberry on Thursday night, for a quadrangular including the Stanberry Bulldogs, Rock Port Blue Jays, and North Andrew Cardinals. Â The GRC Tournament on Saturday begins at 9:30 inside the Trenton High School gymnasium.
