The Trenton Lady Bulldog tennis squad took a quarterfinal victory over the host Benton Cardinals, before falling in back-to-back duels to St. Pius and Savannah, finishing in fourth place at Wednesday’s Benton Invitational in St. Joseph.
Against Benton, the Lady Cardinals had the better of things in singles, with the Bulldogs dominating doubles, taking a 3-2 win. In singles, Benton took a 6-1 Natalie Johnston win over Baley Catron, with Maggie Church downing Emilee Lovell 6-0. Trenton swept doubles, with Lexi Gott and Kendall Crowley beating Sydney Brown and Kally Horn 6-2, Gwyneth Foster teaming with Mallory Sole for a 6-0 win over Mickayla Johnson and Kelly M, and Morgan Dolan and Alaina Overton claiming a 6-2 triumph over Malee Shiflett and Tatum Levendahl.
In the semifinals, the Warriors of St. Pius X shutout Trenton 5-0, with Maisie Maikowitz downing Catron 6-0 and Leah Gehrke over Lovell 6-0 in singles. In doubles, Parise and Carr beat Gott and Crowley 6-3, Wagner and Griffin 6-2 over Foster and Sole, with Brogal and Hess downing Dolan and Overton 6-2.
In the third place match against Savannah, the Savages beat the Bulldogs 4-1. Trenton’s win was a 6-4 doubles triumph for Foster and Sole over Shipley and Olszowski. For Savannah, Atoe and Briner beat Dolan and Overton 6-3, Kallauner and Schuster beat Gott and Crowley 6-3, while in singles, Claycomb beat Catron 6-4, with Reynolds taking a 6-2 win over Lovell.
