One of the top programs in college football to enter the season with a freshman under center, as Coach Ryan Day of the Ohio State Buckeyes has named C.J. Stroud as the starting quarterback for the season opener at Minnesota.  Stroud beat out Jack Miller, and true freshmen Kyle McCord and Quinn Ewers for the position.  However, Day has not yet announced who will be the back-up on the roster to this point.

Stroud hails from Rancho Cucamonga, California, and spent last season as the back-up quarterback to Justin Fields.  He retained his eligibility as a freshman due to the NCAA’s COVID-19 ruling regarding a free year of eligibility for all players in 2020.

Ohio State’s captains will be receivers Chris Olave and Kamryn Babb, offensive lineman Thayer Munford, defensive linemen Haskell Garrett and Zach Harrison, and linebacker Teradja Mitchell.
