On Tuesday afternoon, left-handed pitcher Kris Bubic secured a one-year deal with the Kansas City Royals, bypassing arbitration.

Bubic, currently recovering from Tommy John surgery conducted last April, successfully navigated his second year of eligibility for the arbitration process. According to a source informed by MLB.com, the agreed-upon deal is valued at $2.35 million, representing a modest increase from his 2023 earnings of $2.2 million.

General manager J.J. Picollo confirmed on Tuesday that the 26-year-old is progressing well in his recovery, with expectations of returning to the major league mound by mid-season in the upcoming year. Bubic, limited to just three starts in the previous season before his injury, recorded a 3.94 ERA over 16 innings.

As the offseason unfolds, the Kansas City Royals still have several arbitration-eligible players to negotiate deals with in 2024. This includes right-handed pitchers Brady Singer, Carlos Hernández, Nick Anderson, and Kyle Wright. The arbitration process for these players is anticipated to intensify in January.
