The Cleveland Browns will don a white alternate helmet for the first time in over 70 years during the 2023 season. The new helmet will be worn three times: Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Week 6 versus the San Francisco 49ers, and Week 17 against the New York Jets.
The design of the new helmet stays true to Cleveland’s classic look, with the white, brown, and orange colors essentially inverted from their iconic appearance. The shell is primarily white with two dark brown stripes flanking the orange stripe down the middle. A shiny, metallic brown facemask completes the fresh look.
The white helmet will be accompanied by all-white uniforms featuring customary orange and brown striping, adding a touch of flair to the classic threads. The team’s debut in pro football back in 1946 featured all-white helmets before they adopted their iconic orange shell in 1951. The new look includes a 1946 patch on the shoulder to honor the Browns’ history.
Executive Vice President and Partner JW Johnson expressed excitement about the alternate helmet, citing its connection to the team’s past and the fans’ preference for the white design.
Cleveland’s recent reimagining of its uniform and overall appearance has been met with positive responses from fans. The introduction of the “dawg” logo and “Brownie the Elf” on the 50-yard line reflects the team’s efforts to engage and deliver for their supporters.
The Browns took advantage of the new alternate helmet rule approved last year, allowing teams to introduce different helmet designs. The team aims to maintain its classic look while incorporating modern elements, resulting in one of the cleanest uniforms in the NFL. With the addition of the white alternate helmet, the Browns will sport a new and fresh look for the 2023 season.
Minnesota Vikings fans will get to relive the glory days of the team with a classic throwback uniform set to debut in the 2023 season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The throwback uniform pays homage to the Vikings’ successful era in the 1960s and 1970s. The jersey features a deeper purple hue with gold trim accentuating the traditional white number font and white and gold striping on the sleeves. The classic look extends to the white pants, which display a gold stripe flanked by purple stripes down the side. Completing the ensemble are purple socks.
