The Class 2, District 8 high school football standings saw significant movement on Friday night, with Brookfield’s dominating victory over South Harrison in the GRC first-round battle moving the Bulldogs into the top spot, just ahead of Mid-Buchanan in the standings.
Brookfield, with a season mark of 7-0, has 47.17 points, 0.27 points ahead of 7-0 Mid-Buchanan. East Buchanan, with a 6-1 record, is solidly in the third position, with 42.25 points, while South Harrison’s first setback of the season dropped the 6-1 Bulldogs into the fourth position, with 39.19 points.
There is a fallback of nearly 14 points from South Harrison to 2-5 Lawson, as the Cardinals, coming off of a victory over Monroe City on Friday night, moved 0.12 points ahead of Trenton for the 5th position, as Lawson’s win was boosted by a more solid strength of schedule mark compared to Trenton’s win over 0-7 Maysville. Lathrop is saddled into the #7 spot with a 1-6 record and 17.55 points with two weeks to go in the regular season.
A major Week 9 matchup in Gower between rivals East Buchanan and Mid-Buchanan could have major implications on the district race.
If the regular season ended today, the first-round matchups for November 1st in Class 2, District 8 would be:
#7 Lathrop at #2 Mid-Buchanan
#6 Trenton at #3 East Buchanan
