Brookfield sweeps wrestling triangular at THS

The Trenton High School wrestlers dropped a couple of duals on Thursday night in the THS gymnasium, falling to Richmond 39-30 in the opener and losing to Brookfield 42-34.

Richmond jumped to a 30-0 lead to two high scoring decisions, a pin, and three forfeits.  Trenton scored the next 30 points on three pins and two forfeits to tie the team score.  Richmond took the final two weight classes by a forfeit and a decision to win 39-30.

Trenton winners included Kaden Owen, Caleb Johnson, and Jadan Whitney, all by pin.  Noah Lewis and Mark Trump won both by forfeit.  Trenton gave up four forfeits.  In addition, both the Bulldogs and the Spartans were open at 152 pounds.

Brookfield’s 42-34 victory over Trenton was a see-saw dual.  Trenton winners were Payden McCullough, Noah Lewis, and Jadan Whitney, all by pin; Brice Gibler by a 13-4 major decision; Kaden Owen by a 6-1 decision; Mark Trump by a 4-2 decision (decided just before the final buzzer); and Thomas Lovell by forfeit.

Brookfield had pins by two state ranked wrestlers, Brandon Delana and University of Wyoming signee Brooks Baker.  Brookfield also had five forfeit victories, two of them by state-ranked wrestlers in Jaden Abongo and Donavan Parn.  Also winning by forfeit were Quinn Gladbach, Elijah Martinez, and Jordan Weydert.

There was one girls match involving Trenton and Brookfield.  Libby Fewins of Trenton won a 13-4 major decision.  Winners by forfeit among the girls were Trenton’s Teresa Burkholder, and the Brookfield trio of Paige Delana, Alexa McCollum, and Bree Clawson.

Brookfield beat Richmond 56-15 in the other boys encounter at the triangular on Thursday night in Trenton.

Trenton’s Jadan Whitney is ranked 1st in the state in Class 1 at 195 pounds by MissouriWrestling.com.  That same website ranks Brookfield’s Brooks Baker #1 at heavyweight in Class 1.
