Brookfield outlasts Trenton in double overtime thriller in Milan Tournament quarterfinals

Grand River Conference rivals Brookfield and Trenton locked horns in a 4 seed vs. 5 seed boys duel on Monday night in the Milan Tournament quarterfinal round, with Brookfield evening the season series with Trenton, winning in double overtime by a score of 72-69.

The win sends Brookfield into the Milan Tournament boys semifinals to play top-seeded Green City on Wednesday night at 7:30 (on KTTN FM 92.3), with Trenton dropping into the consolation semifinals to play #8 seed Novinger on Wednesday night. 

In the quarterfinal win for Brookfield, heard on KTTN-FM 92.3, Riley Hinckle had 26 points to pace BHS, with Phoenix Jordan contributing 25, and Hayden DeJong 12 points.  Trenton, with starters Kiefer Tolson and Hunter Smith having fouled out by the end of the contest, had 19 points from Tolson, 15 from Isaac Dixon, and 10 points from Aiden Weyer. 

In the nightcap of Monday night’s KTTN doubleheader from the Milan High School gymnasium, #2 ranked (MBCA Class 1) Green City hammered Novinger by the score of 98-41, with Ty Hall scoring 21 points for the Gophers, with Xander Salas adding 19, Preston Balfany 15, and Ivan Littrell 14.  Josh Downing had 13 points and Collin Stuart 12 for the Novinger Wildcats. 

The girls quarterfinals from the Milan Tournament were played in the old Milan elementary gymnasium on Monday night, with the #2 and #3 seeds advancing, as the Trenton Ladly Bulldogs downed the North Missouri Knights 52-43, with the Milan Lady Wildcats taking down the Novinger Lady Wildcats 45-41.   For Milan, Marian Dabney had 18 points and 8 blocks, with Mya Pauley adding 13 points. 

The Trenton and Milan girls will play in a 6 o’clock semifinal on Wednesday night, with Rod Tompkins on the call on KTTN FM 92.3.
