Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio has named University of Missouri product Drew Lock as the team’s starting quarterback for Saturday night’s preseason opener in Minneapolis against the Minnesota Vikings, although he noted that the move should not be seen as a sign of level of play, but rather Lock’s incumbent status in the training camp battle for the starting position with Teddy Bridgewater.
Bridgewater was acquired from the Carolina Panthers in April, giving instant competition for Lock, who has experienced ups and downs in two years at the quarterback position in the “Mile High City”.
Coach Fangio has appeared consistent in comments concerning the signal-caller battle in camp, saying on Tuesday, “not much has changed in the competition” and “I have confidence in both of these guys, I really do.” Questions continue to fly from Denver media on how Fangio and his staff will ultimately decide who is under center on Opening Day:
Before flying to the Twin Cities, Fangio said several members from each team will meet to talk about what they would like to get out of joint practices, set to be held starting Wednesday at the Vikings training camp facility in Eagan, Minnesota. Often times, such practices produce hot tempers.
