Braymer wins Princeton Tournament title

The Braymer Lady Bobcats went 3-0 on Saturday to win the George Scurlock Tournament title at Princeton.  Braymer defeated Mercer in the opening round, downed Gallatin 12-0 in the semifinals, and grabbed a 9-7 win over Pattonsburg in the championship duel.

Pattonsburg, in grabbing the runner-up spot, downed Princeton in the opening round 3-1, before taking a 6-0 shutout win over Milan in the semifinals.

Gallatin took third place with a 2-1 outing, opening the morning with a 16-6 win over the Chillicothe JV, and rebounding from the semifinal loss with a 10-4 win over Milan in the third place game.  Milan will play Gallatin on Tuesday night at 7 o’clock in the quarterfinal round of district play in Unionville, with coverage on KTTN FM 92.3.

Milan, in the quarterfinals on Saturday morning, shutout the Albany Lady Warriors 10-0, but could not keep the positive momentum on the scoreboard, falling to Pattonsburg and Gallatin.

Princeton salvaged fifth place in their own tournament, rebounding from the opening-round loss to Pattonsburg with a 6-5 squeaker over Albany, and a 2-1 win over Mercer.

Mercer was 1-2 with losses to Braymer and Princeton, and a victory over the Chillicothe JV.  The Lady Hornet JV salvaged seventh place with a 5-2 win over Albany on Saturday afternoon.

Putnam County, in preparation to host this week’s district tournament, won a pair of games on Saturday, defeating Gilman City 13-5 and LaPlata 3-2.

In the Benton Tournament, Maysville took third place with a 3-1 effort on Saturday, defeating Benton 6-4, LeBlond 5-2, falling to Savannah 10-2, before a 10-4 win over St. Joseph Central.  Polo won fifth place with a 10-7 victory over Richmond, with the Lady Panthers, earlier in the day, falling to St. Joseph Central 18-2 while beating St. Teresa’s Academy 22-3 and Lafayette 5-4.

Penney High School’s Lady Hornets went 1-2 at the Higginsville Tournament, falling to Higginsville 6-5 and Sherwood 10-0, with a 5-4 win over KCI rival Lathrop.
