For one inning of Thursday night’s first-ever baseball game between the Chillicothe Hornets and Trenton Bulldogs, the home team had worked a scoreless tie against CHS.  However, the following four innings brought an onslaught of runs against Trenton, as the Bulldogs suffered a 16-0, five inning loss in action broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7.

The Hornets, on the power of three second-inning doubles, grabbed a 2-0 lead after 1 1/2 innings.  Five runs in the 3rd inning and six more in the 4th left the game no longer in doubt.

Zach Trout was 2-for-3 with a home run for Chillicothe, while Drew Toedebusch and Jaran Winder both had five RBI’s.

Facing a fury of fastballs from Hornet freshman right-hander Westley Brandsgaard, the Bulldog offense struggled, striking out 14 times in 17 at-bats.  A bloop double off the bat of Cade Darting, with two outs in the 5th, ended Brandsgaard’s no-hit effort.

Trenton committed a pair of errors in the game.  Hunter Dugan, Avery Cooksey, Mason Owen, and Jesse Farmer combined for five innings of work from the pitching rubber.

The Chillicothe JV won at Burleigh Grimes Field, 8-0 on Thursday night.

Chillicothe will host the Macon Tigers on Monday night in the Hornets home opener.  Trenton’s Friday game at Lathrop was postponed by rain.  That game will be made up on Monday, April 17th.  The Bulldogs will host the Putnam County Midgets on Monday afternoon at 4:30, with coverage on KTTN FM 92.3.
