The Boston College Eagles withstood a dramatic, game-tying 56 yard field goal by Missouri’s Harrison Mevis at the regulation buzzer, with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Denis Grosel to Zay Flowers in overtime, combined with a game-ending interception by Brandon Sebastian, giving the Eagles a 41-34 win over the Tigers on Saturday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
BC appeared to have the game won with 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter after a 5 yard touchdown run by Travis Levy, only to see Mizzou, behind quarterback Connor Bazelak, move the ball to the BC 39, giving Mevis just enough room to barely clear the crossbar and send the game into overtime.
Much like in their conference loss at Kentucky, Mizzou’s run defense was again leaky, giving up two touchdowns and 175 yards on the ground to BC’s Pat Garwo, including a 67-yard run in the opening quarter. Grosel ran nine times for 35 yards, and threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns. BC was 11 of 17 on third-down conversions, and 2 for 2 on fourth down conversions, frustrating the Tiger defense throughout the game.
Bazelak was solid for Missouri, going 30 of 41 passing for 303 yards and a touchdown, however he did throw a pair of interceptions, with Mizzou falling to 2-2 overall heading into Saturday’s SEC home date with Tennessee. Tyler Badie ran for 72 yards and a pair of scores, with Tauskie Dove catching three passes for 89 yards for MU.
