A buzzer-beating three-point shot by Alabama’s Quanetria Bolton gave the visiting Crimson Tide a 59-58 victory over the Missouri Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
The shot stunned the host Tigers, dropping MU to 11-6 overall and 1-2 in the Southeastern Conference, while Alabama improves to 14-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Sophomore Sophie Cunningham had the best scoring game of her season, putting in a season-high 24 points to lead Missouri, including all eight of the Tigers second quarter points. Senior forward Sierra Michaelis struggled from the field, shooting just 2 of 10 in a five-point outing, but the Mercer native hit one of the game’s biggest shots, a three-pointer with 1:03 left in the fourth quarter that gave Mizzou a 57-54 lead. Forward Cierra Porter had a 11 point, 10 rebound effort in 33 minutes, tying her career-high with five blocks.
Mizzou continues its SEC slate with a road contest at LSU on Thursday, Jan. 12. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network Plus.
