Blair Oaks (Jefferson City, MO) High School senior Luke Northweather, the 2021-2022 Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Missouri, has committed to play basketball at the University of Oklahoma, passing on late interest in his recruiting cycle from the in-state Missouri Tigers and the Big 10’s Wisconsin Badgers.

Northweather led the Falcons to a 26-2 season this season, averaging 29.2 points and 11.1 rebounds per game.  However, interest in the 6’10” product was slow to develop, as the University of Wyoming was first to offer Northweather a scholarship (in his sophomore season), while local options the likes of UMKC, Bradley, Western Illinois, and Eastern Illinois began to develop early in his senior season, with Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Missouri, seeing a product that put up 2,018 total career points, and a 51-point game against Eldon in February, made offers as the high school basketball season came to a close.

Northweather had originally committed to UMKC, but by late March had decommitted from the Kangaroos to explore the other options.  The Sooners, Tigers, and Badgers quickly emerged as the top 3 schools in the recruiting process, with Wisconsin eliminated from consideration after visits to the OU and MU campuses.  The final decision to choose Oklahoma came on Friday, May 6th.

Northweather will join an Oklahoma recruiting class that includes Milos Uzan, Otega Oweh, and Benjamin Schroeder, in addition to transfers Sam Godwin and Joe Bamisile, for second-year coach Porter Moser.
