Gallatin High School freshman Brynn Bird gave up eight hits to visiting Princeton on Tuesday night, but finished a 6-2 win for the Lady Bulldogs with a flourish, retiring 12 of the last 15 batters she faced, 10 of those by strikeout, as Gallatin pushed its record to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Grand River Conference.

In softball action heard on KTTN FM 92.3, Princeton opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd inning, as a bloop double down the right field line by Grace Kelly scored Jolena Gibson.  Down 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Gallatin’s Betty Rogers, with the bases loaded and two outs, hit a high fly ball into short left field.  The steady east wind knocked the ball down in front of the charging Tiger outfield, scoring three runs to give the Bulldogs the lead for good.

Princeton’s final run opened the fourth inning, as senior center fielder Mackenzie Dunkin hammered a home run to center field.  Gallatin’s Karydon Jones answered that homer with a solo shot of her own in the bottom of the 4th, with the Lady Bulldogs adding a pair of runs in the 6th inning, with Alex Endicott scoring on a safety squeeze, with Karydon Jones racing home with a clean steal for a 6th run.

The loss drops Princeton’s record to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the GRC race.
