SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) Chris Wondolowski scored on a penalty kick and David Bingham had five saves to help the San Jose Earthquakes beat Sporting Kansas City 1-0 on Sunday.
Wondolowski scored his MLS-leading seventh goal of the season in the 58th minute after Simon Dawkins drew a likely goal-saving penalty in the box on Kansas City goalkeeper Tim Melia.
Sporting’s Dominic Dwyer appeared to draw a penalty inside San Jose’s box just seconds before Wondolowski’s goal, but didn’t get the call.
Bingham had a pair of acrobatic saves in the first half and recorded his third shutout this season, tied for the most in MLS.
San Jose (4-2-2) has scored at least one goal in 21 consecutive games, the longest active streak in MLS.
Sporting KC (4-4-0) has lost three in a row and lost four of its last five. It was held scoreless for the first time in its last eight games, dating to last season.
