The Buffalo Bills have solidified their leadership by signing general manager Brandon Beane and coach Sean McDermott to two-year contract extensions, keeping them with the team through the 2027 season. This move demonstrates the long-term faith and commitment of co-owner Terry Pegula in the duo, who have successfully transformed the Bills into a consistent playoff contender since their arrival in 2017.

Under Beane and McDermott’s guidance, the Bills ended a 17-year playoff drought in 2017 and have qualified for the postseason in five of the past six years. They have also secured three consecutive AFC East championships, establishing a winning culture within the organization. McDermott, who joined the team in 2017, is recognized for instilling this winning mentality and building a strong team led by key leaders such as Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer.

Despite their remarkable success, the past two seasons have ended disappointingly for the Bills. They suffered losses in the divisional round against Cincinnati and Kansas City, respectively. McDermott will take on additional responsibilities this year, overseeing the defense after coordinator Leslie Frazier announced he would be taking a year off from coaching.

Beane, who joined the Bills in 2017, has been instrumental in rebuilding the team’s roster through strategic drafting and free agency moves. His decision to trade up in the 2018 draft and select quarterback Josh Allen has had a significant impact on the team’s success. Allen and Lamar Jackson are the only two quarterbacks from the 2018 draft still with the teams that selected them.

The relationship between Beane and McDermott goes back to their time together with the Carolina Panthers. They have brought stability to a franchise that experienced significant turnover in coaching and GM positions from 2001 to 2016.

By entering their seventh season together, Beane and McDermott are poised to become the longest-serving GM-coach tandem in Bills history, surpassing the tenure of Bill Polian and Marv Levy. The team is looking forward to continued success under their leadership, as they strive to bring Buffalo its first-ever Super Bowl championship.
