The Trenton Bulldogs dominated the Richmond Spartans in Wednesday afternoon’s Class 1, District 15 boy’s tennis championship dual, winning 5-0, giving the top-seeded Bulldogs the program’s second consecutive district title.
Two out of six singles matches were completed before Trenton clinched the district title with five wins. At #3 singles, Gabe Swann routed Tyler Boss 6-1, 6-love, while at #5 singles, Wyatt Neal won in straight sets over Lennon Puls, 6-1, 6-2.
Unlike the semifinal round against Chillicothe, when one of the three Trenton doubles win came down to a 9-7 Bulldog triumph, in Wednesday’s district championship, all of the doubles wins for THS came in decisive fashion.  At #3 doubles, Neal teamed with Jeremy Elliott for an 8-love sweep of Puls and Grant Decker. Nick Shields and Gabe Swann, at #1 doubles, took down Brandon Hendricks and Tyler Boss of Richmond, 8-1, while at #2 doubles, Kade Ockenfels and Creed Houghton claimed an 8-1 win over Colton Baker and Seth McGraw.
The win sends Trenton to the Class 1 sectional round on Saturday, May 19th at Maryville High School, as the District 16 champion Spoofhounds will host two sectional duals, and the state quarterfinals, all on the same day.
Trenton, in the sectionals, will take on the District 14 champion Pembroke Hill Raiders, with Maryville, champions of District 16, dueling with the District 13 champion Odessa Bulldogs. The sectional survivor will advance to the state semifinals at 9 AM on Thursday, May 24th in Springfield.
