All-Star point guard Chris Paul will apparently continue his chase of an elusive NBA championship in San Francisco, with the Washington Wizards agreeing to the framework of a trade on Thursday afternoon to send Paul to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Jordan Poole. The Associated Press, citing “a person with knowledge of the matter”, reported on the proposed swap, with ESPN first to verify the details between the teams.Â
Last week, Washington had agreed to a deal with Paul’s former employer, the Phoenix Sunday, sending multi-time All-Star and St. Louis native Bradley Beal to the Arizona desert.
Paul has appeared in 1,214 regular-season games and 149 in the playoffs. How the aging star will fit into a lineup that includes guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
The 12-time All-Star averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 assists this past season for Phoenix. Poole averaged 20.4 points this past season. Green is set to become a free agent, one that the Warriors want to retain.
Earlier on Thursday morning, Washington agreed to send center Kristaps Porzingis to Boston as part of a three-way trade that sends Marcus Smart from the Celtics to the Memphis Grizzlies. First round picks in 2023 and 2024 are headed from Memphis to Boston, with Memphis sending veteran point guard Tyus Jones to D.C. Forwards Mike Muscala and Danilo Gallinari and a second-round pick in this year’s draft will head from Boston down to Washington.
Washington appears to be in full rebuild move, with Porzingis headed out of town along with Bradley Beal. Veteran forward Kyle Kuzma has declined his option, putting him in the free agency pool for this summer. By adding the 7’3″ Porzingis, Boston is aiming to find the final piece for an NBA title after the Celtics lost to Miami in 7 games in this year’s Eastern Conference Final. Porzingis averaged 23.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game for Washington this past season.
