The Albany Lady Warriors completed a three-game sweep through the bracket with an 13-7 victory on Saturday afternoon against Braymer, winning the George Scurlock Memorial Tournament in Princeton.
Princeton started the tournament slowly, falling to South Harrison in the quarterfinals, but the Lady Tigers rebounded with wins over Mercer (17-0) and Polo (5-3) to rally for the consolation championship.
Mercer was 0-3 on the day, settling for 8th place. The Lady Cardinals lost to Braymer in the quarterfinal round 16-0, with the Princeton Lady Tigers winning 16-0 over Mercer in the consolation semifinals. In the 7th place game, Mercer fell to Pattonsburg by a score of 16-9. Mercer will aim to break its losing streak on the road Monday night, playing at Green City.
The Milan Lady Wildcats opened the day with an 8-2 win over the Polo Lady Panthers, the Lady ‘Cats second victory over Polo this season. Polo beat Pattonsburg in an all-GRC consolation semifinal 5-0. Milan finished in 4th place, following up the quarterfinal win over Polo with an 8-3 loss to Albany, and a 16-7 loss in the third place game to the South Harrison Lady Bulldogs. Milan hosts Brookfield on Monday night in the Lady ‘Cats “Senior Night” game.
