Former University of Missouri forward Jontay Porter, who had been playing on a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors, has been handed a lifetime ban from the NBA due to his involvement in gambling activities. The league’s investigation revealed that Porter had disclosed confidential information about his health status to an individual known to be an NBA bettor prior to the Raptors’ game on Wednesday, March 20. Subsequently, another individual associated with Porter placed an $80,000 parlay bet with an online sportsbook, betting that Porter would underperform in the mentioned game.

During that March 20 game against the Sacramento Kings, Porter exited early due to illness after playing only 3 minutes. He failed to score any points, record assists, and managed only 2 rebounds in a 123-89 loss for the Raptors.

Additionally, the investigation found that Porter himself had placed 13 bets on NBA games using an online account. One of these bets included a parlay where he wagered on the Raptors to lose, according to the NBA’s statement. These actions have resulted in the league imposing a lifetime ban on Porter from any involvement in NBA-related activities.

Jontay Porter is the younger brother of Michael Porter Jr., a starting forward for the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets, and like Jontay, a product of the University of Missouri.
