The Worth County Lady Tigers, looking to rebound after a series of struggling seasons, won the season-opening North Harrison Softball Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Eagleville, beating Winston, the North Harrison JV, and, in the title game, North Nodaway.
Worth County dominated a Winston team that struggled in losing all three of its games, rolling into the semifinals, after defeating the Lady Shamrocks, Worth County claimed an 8-5 championship victory over North Nodaway.
Princeton’s Lady Tigers finished in third place, opening play with a 4-2 quarterfinal win over GRC East rival South Harrison. Ironically, the two teams are scheduled to meet Tuesday night at 5:30, in Bethany, in the GRC opener for both. Princeton’s hopes of a tournament title were ended by North Nodaway, in a 9-6 loss, but PHS rebounded in the third place game for an 8-7 win over the North Harrison JV.
On the loser’s bracket side, South Harrison defeated East Harrison in the semifinals 7-5, setting up a game with the Lawson JV for the 5th place honors. South Harrison, looking to be an improved squad coming off of two rough seasons, won the 5th place contest, 8-6. East Harrison, in an all-HDC 7th place game, defeated the Winston Lady Redbirds.
