Embroiled in an ongoing contract negotiation with the Kansas City Chiefs, veteran All-Pro safety Eric Berry did not report to the first day of training camp for the team, Friday in St. Joseph.
Berry has been seeking a long-term deal from the Chiefs, but was designated as the team’s franchise player. Having not yet signed a contract, Berry cannot be disciplined for skipping camp. If or perhaps more-so when the contract (one year at 10.8 million dollars) is signed, Berry would, at least for 2016, be the highest-paid safety in the National Football League.
The first-full squad workout for the Chiefs is scheduled for today (Saturday) at Missouri Western State University. Neither Head Coach Andy Reid or General Manager John Dorsey discussed the Berry situation on Friday.
