The storylines were clear coming into Thursday night’s HDC Conference girl’s basketball game in Jamesport. A Mercer team firmly placed at or near the top of the conference standings for the better part of a decade was taking on an up-and-coming group from Tri-County aiming to swing an early-season statement win.
At least for one night, the rise of the Lady Mustangs was slowed by the Lady Cardinals, who dominated the second quarter in 26-3 fashion in a 68-36 victory. Aubrey Wilson led Mercer with 24 points, with Tori Meinecke scoring 16 and Morgan Eastin 11. Tri-County was paced by Carli Turner with 13 points.
Mercer won the boys game at Jamesport by a score of 66-24. The Tri-County girls and boys will be in action on Saturday morning against Bucklin/Macon County at North Central Missouri College in Trenton.
