Pattonsburg senior quarterback Steven Willhite threw for 10 touchdown passes, including four in the opening quarter, as the Grand River Conference champion Panthers throttled the Stanberry Bulldogs, 74-20, in an Eight-Man, District 3 semifinal broadcast Friday night on Hot Country Z 101.7.
The Panthers scored 32 unanswered points to open the contest, before the Bulldogs made a quarter-plus run of momentum at Pattonsburg, with two touchdowns in the final six minutes of the half pulling the #5 seed to win 52-14 at the half. A Collin Sager 16 yard touchdown catch in the third quarter pulled Stanberry to within 52-20, before Pattonsburg scored the final 22 points of regulation, including a safety on a tackle by Carter Crone in the end zone with 8:58 remaining in the final quarter.
The win sends 9-1 Pattonsburg into the District 3 final, where the Panthers will host the Worth County Tigers on Friday, November 15th at 7 o’clock, also on Hot Country Z 101.7. Worth County advanced with a 74-54 triumph over nearby rival Albany on Friday night.
Up Interstate 35 on Friday night, the South Harrison Bulldogs, in action heard on KTTN FM 92.3, went into halftime tied with GRC rival Milan by a score of 8-8. The second half belonged completely to the side in purple, with South Harrison scoring 24 consecutive points, on the strength of four touchdowns, moving to 10-1 on the season with a 32-8 win. Further to the east at Scotland County High School, the top-seeded Tigers were shutout by Putnam County 29-0, advancing the Midgets to Bethany for the Class 1, District 8 championship game this Friday night, also on KTTN 92.3 FM.
