The Class 2, second-ranked Milan Wildcats hammered long-time rival Putnam County on Saturday night, 64-30, winning the championship hardware in the Marceline Hoops Classic for the second year in a row. Hunter Shaw led a balanced Milan attack with 18 points, as the Wildcats improve to 13-0 on the season. Putnam County, now 8-6, was paced by Kelton Bain’s 12 points.
The Marceline Lady Tigers took the title in their own tournament, winning a hotly-contested affair against the Macon Tigerettes, 45-42. Baylee Jobson had a game-high 23 points for Marceline, now 6-6 with the victory, dropping Macon to 8-5.
The boys third place game went to South Shelby, a 65-56 winner over Brookfield in an-all Clarence Cannon Conference match-up, while the Milan girls lost the third place game to Brookfield, 63-52. Rylee Sensenich led the Lady ‘Dogs with 21 points, improving the record of the BHS girls to 8-4. Milan, dropping to 7-6, had 22 points from Cady Pauley.
The consolation finals at Marceline went to the South Shelby girls, 60-34 over Putnam County, and a Macon boys, a 61-41 winner over Marceline.
