The basketball programs at Kansas State University and Wichita State will play four times on four different courts, starting in 2021, announcing the renewal of an in-state rivalry dormant since 2003.
The games will be played at downtown Wichita’s INTRUST Bank Arena, Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, the T-Mobile Center in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, and Koch Arena on the Wichita State campus.
The series will open with a charity exhibition game to be played this October at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, before the first “matchup that counts” back at INTRUST Bank on December 5, 2021. The following season (December 3, 2022) the Shockers travel to Manhattan to battle the Wildcats.
Neutral sites come into play for December 22, 2023, with a game at the T-Mobile Center (formerly the Sprint Center) in KC, with the game at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita on December 7, 2024.
In the last meeting between the schools, KSU won in Manhattan over Wichita State 54-50 in 2003. Kansas State leads the all-time series 20-11, and has won 14 of the last 16 meetings played in Manhattan, at Bramlage Coliseum or the Wildcats’ former home, Ahearn Fieldhouse.
Kansas State is looking to add series of “regional interest” into its future scheduling, including games with Nebraska over the next three seasons, including December 19th of this year at Kansas City’s T-Mobile Center.
