The Milan Wildcat basketball teams took a pair of victories on Thursday night, defeating the Linn County Mustangs in semifinal action at the Milan Invitational Tournament.
The Milan boys pulled away from a tough first three quarters, for a 71-53 win over the Mustangs. Wyatt Bohle led the Wildcats with 23 points, with Ryan Dabney adding 19, and Mauricio Curiel and Hunter Shaw 10 points each. Linn County was paced by 18 points from Jase White, 14 from Kade Ward, and 11 points (all in the first half) from Michael O’Kane.
The win sends MHS into the boy’s championship game, Saturday night at 8 o’clock (weather permitting) against the Novinger Wildcats, while Linn County will duel with Green City for third place on Saturday afternoon at 5 o’clock.
The Milan girls used suffocating defense to defeat the border rival Lady Mustangs, 46-11. Samantha DeRyke led the Lady ‘Cats with 13 points, while Evelyn Castro had eight, Kenna Michael 7, and Angelle Ziegler 7 points. Linn County’s Alexis Miller had six points.
In the girls title game, Saturday night at 6:30, Milan will take on rival Green City for the championship hardware.
Both Milan – Linn County games were broadcast on KTTN FM 92.3.
In earlier action on Thursday night, the Brashear Lady Tigers won a consolation semifinal against Newtown-Harris 41-24, sending the Lady Tigers into a consolation final against Novinger (Friday – 5:00 PM).
The boys consolation final, to be played on Friday night at 6:30, will match the Brashear Tigers against the Grundy R-5 Panthers. The third place girls game, between the Grundy R-5 Lady Panthers and the Linn County Lady Mustangs, will be played at 8 o’clock.
